About Leavenworth Jefferson Electric Cooperative

LJEC is a member-owned, member-focused electric distribution cooperative that strives to exceed our members' expectations by providing safe, reliable, cost-effective electric power together with value added services.

Incorporated in 1940, energizing LJEC's lines would have to wait until 1946 due to the efforts associated with World War II. LJEC now maintains 1,551 miles of line, serves over 6,800 members with 8,200+ meters in Northeast Kansas.

LJEC functions as a democratic, non-profit organization. We are controlled by our members who actively participate in setting cooperative policy and making decisions in the best interest of the cooperative. Unlike investor owned utilities, LJEC's profits are returned to our members in the form of capital credits.
